Simon Bywater grew up in Cambridgeshire, where his parents ran a village shop.

On  leaving School he joined the Royal Marines, serving in 40 Commando RM. His participation in NATO exercises took him to Norway, Denmark, Germany and the Middle East. On marrying he decided to leave the Marines, but the Gulf War intervened and he served in Turkey and Iraq. On returning to the UK he served with the police forces of Manchester, then Cambridgeshire.

Now working in a small business with his brother, Simon Bywater lives in Cambridgeshire with his wife and family.
